Jim Tinter plays the recorder with the style, phrasing and passion of a jazz saxophonist. A comment often heard after one of his performances or workshops is, "I never knew the recorder could sound like that!"
He is a composer, educator, clinician, publisher and professional photographer. Jim’s recorder materials have gotten rave reviews professionally from American Recorder magazine (November, 1996) and personally from teachers and students in the U.S., Canada and Taiwan for their comprehensive musical appeal and for making it easy to learn to improvise. An extensive amount of teaching experience, along with a jazz background, gives Jim a unique understanding of the capabilities and needs of musicians of all ages.
An MENC Nationally Registered Music Educator with a B.A. and M.A. in music education, Jim has taught and composed music for concert band, jazz band, choir and general music at the elementary and junior high levels. He also taught at Cuyahoga Community College and The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland, Ohio. In addition, he holds Orff-Schulwerk certifications and has taken numerous workshops in Kodaly, Dalcroze, movement, jazz and music technology.
As a workshop leader and artist, Jim has presented at the local, state and national levels for organizations such as MENC, the American Orff-Schulwerk Association, the Texas Music Educator’s Association, and in Taiwan for Orff Music World. In 2003, his fourth grade students achieved the honor of being the first and only elementary aged group in the history of Westlake City Schools to perform at The Ohio Music Education Association state conference. Jim currently teaches K-5 general music and beginning band in Westlake, Ohio
